THE BIDDING BOX - STANDARD AMERICAN
Preemptive Jump-Shift Responses

Also called Weak Jump Shifts, this is the use of a jump response in a new suit to show a very weak hand (usually five or less) with a six or seven-card suit. For example, partner opens 1C and you hold

QJxxxxx ~~ x ~~ xx ~~ Jxx

Your bid of 2S would say, "Partner!! You should see this garbage!! But my suit is long!!"
